Just some personal info: A big thank you to all my visitors!
Yesterday was my biggest day ever, with over 5000 hits on the
main page and over 20000 page accesses on the server. I
expect today to far exceed that, too. Now, I want to know,
how can I improve the site? Use the feedback link to let me
know any suggestions you have on how I can better serve your

Tumbling Thunder?
"L5R is leaving the monthly model after release 6," according
to the latest Scrye (#5.4). "The Hidden Emperor conclusion
set (code-named Storms of War) is going to be a 150-card set
with 3 different factions, and is scheduled for release in
February. After this, there will be a new L5R expansion every
4 months." Scrye also notes that Doomtown will move to "every
3rd month." They make no mention of changes in LBS or Rage,
which will apparently be staying bi-monthly and monthly for
now.

Stephen Turnbull is a scholar on the military history of

Samurai miniatures game called Killer
Katanas that looks interesting, plus a humorous fictional
account of the
Wazoku Ninja clan.

Story Tournament CanGames in Ottawa, CA
Zen and crew will be running quite a story tournament at
CanGames in Ottawa, Canada, 11-3 on September 26. The Clan of
the winner has someone who was presumed dead in the Clan Wars
return, still alive. You can read Zen's announcement here. Note: I'll give
an Ancestral Sword of the Lion Clan to a corrupt Lion Clan
winner! Addition: Zen has noted that getting the story
tournament was Jeff Kyer's idea (his e-mail address is in the

The Art of Kumihimo
In the quest to learn how to make Samurai armor, today I found
out that the art of braiding the cord used for Samuari armor
is Kumihimo. Check out the Kumihimo
stand and see how it's made. Unsurprisingly, I've been unable
to find a web page that details the patterns to make the cords so
I could attempt this myself...

Akira Kurosawa Dead at 88
As reported by Zen, Akira
Kurosawa passed away on Sunday, joining Japanese film great
Toshiro Mifune in the void.
For a look at Kurosawa's major influence upon L5R, see one of John Wick's old
messages. Cited by both George Lucas and Steven Spielberg
as a major influence, Kurosawa was one of the greatest film
makers in the media's history. Go rent one of his films, they
are truly wonderful. (P.S., Rashomon is my favorite, followed by
Seven Samurai)

DragonCon Finals
Final 8:: C.Barnhardt (Unicorn), D.Redys (Unicorn), J.Dumey (Dragon), T.Day (Unicorn), E.Wiener (Crane), B.Settle (Crane), A.Cox (Lion), R.Amick (Toturi's Army)
Final 4:: C.Barnhardt (Unicorn), J.Dumey (Dragon), E.Wiener (Crane), R.Amick (Toturi's Army)
Final 2:: Eric Wiener (Crane) over Joe Dumey (Dragon).
Both were excellent players with exciting decks, but I feel it
went to Eric mainly due to a first turn Inheritence that
allowed him to get out Rekai and Ginawa, and, despite a first
turn Chrysanthemum Festival, Joe only saw Yoshi and Yasu the
rest of the game. I hope to have both their decks up on this
page in the next few days. For the story reward, as the
(real, not clan) Dragons leave the world, disgusted with
humanity's barbarism that led to their brother Togashi's
death, only the Void Dragon retains any faith in humanity and
fashions a naginata from the Dragon Pearl and gives it to the
Crane.

DragonCon Found
Okay, here's a quick overview of the DragonCon L5R events so far:
Thursday: Sealed deck. I missed this, and don't know who won.
I heard turnout was fairly light, only 25 or so.
Friday: Sealed Imperial deck. Yes, Imperial; apparently AEG
coughed up a box of Imperial starters and for $30 you got to take
part in a 12 player multiplayer game. Eric Devlin won after about
seven hours of play. There was a sealed Jade event for those that
couldn't/wouldn't take place. I was the first eliminated, but I
got Lion.
Saturday: Storyline Tournament. There were about 57 people for
this tournement. I went 1/4 with two close loses and two blowouts.
Here's the breakdown of the qualifiers for tomorrow:
Crane, 4 players: Brian Settle, Eric Wiener, John Andrew, Amy Chandler
Unicorn, 4 players: Dan Redys, Trais Day, Chris Barnhardt, Robert Mason
Dragon, 3 players (all old SH): Joe Dumey, Andy Morris, Arian Gulick
Monk, 2 players (all new SH): Zev Shlasinger, Travis Ludwig
Lion, 1 player: Andrew Cox
Toturi's Army, 1 player: Randall Amick
Crab, 1 player: Kelly Wallace
