Welcome to the Shadowlands Refuge of the Lion Clan!
"Its lips are torn and bloodied, its flesh lies rotting at the bottom of the sea. Yet he is still my Emperor, and I hear his voice foaming up from the depths of the Pit, echoed in this eternal cup of bone...Where he commands, I have no choice but to follow." From "Fu Leng's Skull"

  L5R Next Generation
Dave answered the following quEDTion of mine:
IA: I wonder if the designers would consider LBS to be how they would do L5R if they could do it over again?
DW: That is definitely one of the opportunities that we had when beginning design on LBS. It fixes some of the design problems that L5R has (and almost assuredly creates some new ones!).

  Strategic L5R
Dave just posted info and rules about Strategic L5R at GenCon. Check it out here.

  New Date Banners
Please let me know what you think about the new date banners I'm using. They all use the same image and text, so it should make the site load faster, and won't delay updates by requiring me to make a new graphic for each day.

A Trickle of Wat--, I mean, Information
Alright, my local game shop has confirmed that LBS is in and for sale. I know many people have received demo packs, but they have agreed not to show anything until Friday. If you have not made such an agreement, and you can find the cards, please help me make a spoiler list. If you have made this agreement and wish to help, make a list and mail it to me the morning of the 31st, no sooner. Thanks.

  My GenCon Bounty
I forgot to mention it here, but I will be offering a copy of Ikoma Ryozo autographed by artist Mike Raabe to every Corrupted Lion that enters GenCon's Jade Champion story tournament. I'm also buying NM+ Ikoma Ryozos for $1.00 each to get enough; use the feedback form if you are interEDTed in selling yours.

  HE2 Spoilers
Okay, it's very irritating that I spend $85 for 2 starters and 30 packs and end up at least 2 cards ("Suspicions" and "Tattooing Chamber") short of a set. L5R definitely needs to adopt the flattened rarity scheme of Doomtown, this is awful. Frustrations aside, HE2 is to me even more exciting than HE1. Frankly, I'm too jet lagged to type up spoilers right now, but here is the SH and champion:

Kyuden Hitomi: 6/4/2. You may place up to 5 Fate cards under your stronghold immediately after your opponents reveal their strongholds. Reaction: Instead of drawing a card during your End Phase, bow your stronghold to take a card from under this Stronghold and add it to your hand.

Hitomi: 6F 5C -/14/1. Dragon Clan Champion * Tattooed * Experienced 3 * Samurai * Shugenja * Unique Immune to Corruption tokens. Will only join Dragon Clan Player. Battle: Once per battle, issue an unrefuseable challenge to an opposing Personality. The loser does not die, but if Hitomi wins the duel, you gain control of the loser for the rest of the game. Then, the loser is sent to your fief, bowed, and gains the Tattooed trait, Permanently.

  HE3 Card List
Well, couldn't leave without putting this new bit of information up. You can find the HE3 card list, courtesy of Jeff Hansen <jhansen@nwonline.net>, here. Let me just say, Ikoma Ryozo experienced! Heh heh heh...

  On Vacation
I'll be out of town until the 19th, so there won't be any updates for a while. Sorry, guys. This site has been up now since June 1, and the response has been overwhelming. Before the June 1 makeover, the most page accesses I'd had was about 200. On Monday, I peaked at 7,477 page accesses. June 27 was the last day I had fewer than 4,000 page accesses in a single day. I'm glad I am able to offer something useful that everybody likes.

If you wish to show your appreciation, make your Lion decks loyal to the Son of Heaven, and not the dirty ronin imposter who sat upon the throne in Otasan Uchi...

  Hitomi Ksandy?
Shinjo Ksandy has offered the following Unicorn bounty for GenCon:
"[M]y bounty is to grant someone else the UN+++ code I have.... I'll spring for a Unicorn winner, using no Shadowland personalities, to get the Clan Mon tattooed upon him."
This makes Shinjo Ksandy the first UN++++ ("I tattoo my clan mon onto others.") Note that this was originally created for Dragons, but Shinjo Ksandy beat them to it as far as I know. ;)

  Origins L5R/LBS tidbits
More information from Origins can be found here. It shows what would have happened if Scorpion had won, rumors about Hitomi and Dragon, and has some Legends of the Burning Sands info, among other things.

  GenCon Bounties
The GenCon bounties are already starting to roll in. Here are a couple:
  • Eric Suess is offering his Designers Win card to an honorable Crab win ("Lump it, Craneboy")
  • Kitsu Sei is offering a real sword for a *shudder* honorable Lion win.
11:09 PM EST, I.Andy

  Still Another Origins Update!
Okay, the facts from Origins are starting to get sorted out:
  • Joel Mazolla's winning Cane deck is here.
  • The storyline affects are detailed nicely here.
Well, it was a lot of fun. I hope to see plenty of Corrupted Lion at GenCon and DragonCon...

  More Origins Update!
Here's the latest on Origins for me, and the last update as I leave tomorrow morning:
  • Crane took at least the top three spots in the Story tournament. It also appeared to me to be the most well represented clan. There were only three Lion decks. Talk about fair weather fans! The other corrupt Lion did make it to the round of eight, though.
  • GenCon bounty: there are rumours of an _Extreme_ Crab clan bounty for GenCon. No spoilers here, though-- I'll announce it here once it's official.
  • An L5R booster draft was run today. There were at least 50-60 people in it, I don't know who won. I drew Dave Williams as my opponent. I breached him to -1 and took two provinces with my Phoenix, but he tied a battle and got above zero honor, and pulled it out (nice way to say he stomped the living crap out of me!) It was fun, thanks Dave.
  • I played in an L5R LARP tonight. I was the Captain of a Matsu house guard. It was GREAT. Wound up challenging a Shosuro who accused my Lady of his own crimes. I was cut down by his Kakita champion, but was vindicated in the end. ;)
  • The L5R and AEG folks are wonderful! Feel confident that you are involved in great products run by great people.
Whew! It was a lot of fun, folks, I can't wait for DragonCon! Everybody have fun at GenCon!
12:54 AM EST, I.Andy
  Origins Update!
Whew! It's been a really fun day. Here's a rundown of what's been going on:
  • Way of the Scorpion arrived at AEG booth while I was there. It immediately sold out.
  • The story tournament is right now down to the final 16. From what I heard, about half of them are Crane. There were bounties for all the clans; while neither I nor Eric Suess made the finals, we both have a good Crab and a corrupt Lion in the mix!
  • A Scorpion player showed up with koku, ancestral swords, T-shirts, etc...and attempted to bribe his way through. He didn't make the cut, but one Lion player with a Crane deck took a Lion Sword to concede after all but beating him.
  • The RPG won the best RPG award, and Time of the Void won best expansion. They gave the credit to their wonderful fans!
  • I met most of the FRPG/AEG staff, and they are the coolest.
  • I got a lot of compliments on the page!! Thanks a lot, guys!
I'll do another update tonight and let you know who won.
10:05 PM EST, I.Andy
  Origins Updates
Well, I got a laptop from work, so I'll try to do a little play by play for the Origins tournament here on the website. I have completely lost track of all the bounties placed for the tournament, but Joe Fulgham did clarify that his bounty was intended for GenCon, not Origins.
3:58 PM EST, I.Andy
  Shadowlands Refuge Invasion!
Sneak attack! In a rather sudden decision, I will be attending Origins, so there won't be any updates until Saturday or Sunday. I will be leading a corrupt Lion deck, holding Fu Leng's Skull next to Kuni Yori, and will take the Bayushi Lands in the name of our true Emperor!
11:59 PM EST, I.Andy
