Welcome to the Shadowlands Refuge of the Lion Clan!
"Its lips are torn and bloodied, its flesh lies rotting at the bottom of the sea. Yet he is still my Emperor, and I hear his voice foaming up from the depths of the Pit, echoed in this eternal cup of bone...Where he commands, I have no choice but to follow." From "Fu Leng's Skull"

  Anti Seeding Petition
Dragon*Con '98 winner Eric Wiener is circulating a petition against the automatic placing of high tournament point tallying players into the finals of major tournaments. If you wish to participate, read the petition.

The issue stems from recent changes made to the L5R tournament system, as stated by L5R Brand Manager Luke Peterschmidt in a recent announcement to l5rinfo. The particular point in contention is point number two:

2) Worlds Championships - For the first time, the Gen Con tourney will be a true World Championship. We will "seed" players with the highest "other points" total as well as the highest lifetime points players of each clan. In addition, country champions from there countries "nationals" will also get seeded (the first year will probably only have 2-4 of these while we gear up the system). Players who show up to Gen Con will also be able to play in the Worlds - the seeded players will get buys into later rounds (32 or 64 or something).

Many people, myself included, feel that the automatic placement of these players directly into the finals discriminates against those players who do not have an active sanctioned tournament "scene" in their area, and lessens the chances for advancement to other players at major cons, many of whom have spent a lot of money and made a lot of effort to represent their clan at a major storyline affecting event.

  The Storming of Morikage Castle
The worldwide story tournament in January will be the Storming of Morikage Castle. According to FRPG's new website, "The results of the tournament will be pooled together to determine who saves the Emperor (who is being held in the abandoned forest castle of Morikage.)"

Note that the tournaments will be held only at Stronghold stores. If you do not have a Stronghold store nearby, start working now to get one by January 15th!

Also note that Storms of War (HE episodes 7-9) will not be released until February, which means we know pretty much all the cards available for this tournament. Get to work on your Corrupt Lion decks now! ;)
