Greetings,

Subject: Questions (HELP PLEASE)

> When a personality has an ability that does not require bowing
> they can only perform the action once, unless it says they can do

Repeatedly, unless the card or rules says otherwise.

> If I have Asahina Dorai with The Emerald Armor attached. Is this

   No.

> If I have the armor of sun tao attached to a personality with terrains
> underneath. In a battle action segmant where the affects of The Great
> Silance are in play, can I play a terrain from underneath[?]

Yes. The action you're using is printed on the Armor.

Please turn this off. It makes the Deputy Rules Guy more likely to
view your case favourably. ;)

> What defines a change?

   Got a dictionary?

> As far as honor loss/gain is concerned, are copied, redirected and
> prevented the same thing as changed?

No, yes, maybe. "Preventing" honor loss is not changing it *if* the
effect is in play before the honor loss occurs. "Prevent" itself is not
a useful keyword.

> Can the Favor be used to stop an honor loss from the Dark Oracle of
> Water?

   No.

> Can Goshiu be used to cause a 7 pt honor loss to your opponent as well
> as yourself after using the DOoW?

   Yes.

> Could TWT be used to redirect the honor loss?

   No.

The point several years too late. The Most Recent Printing rule has
been used multiple times before this (e.g., Naga stronghold, Phoenix
stronghold -- twice!). The trick has been that it's been used carefully,
and sparingly. That's one of Dave William's biggest virtues as a
designer: he doesn't panic. He doesn't try to solve problems in one go,
nor make changes without carefully weighing the pros and cons.

As a rule, people do not pay US$30+ for mediocre cards.

The vast majority people voting with their wallet are saying that
Shinsei's Shrines *are* extremely good cards that help win games. A lot
of games.

This is a CCG. You knew what that entailed when you started playing.

   Sure.

   Right.

Shinsei's Shrine Crane decks won about *half* the major tournamants
held during 1998, notably Orc*Con, Origins, GenCon UK, and the Great Sea
Spider tournament (where the top *three* players were Shinsei's Shrine
Crane decks -- in a 60+ player tournament). Then there were all the
reports from local tournaments indicating their wins. That's more than
"occasional tourneies."

They were eclipsed in 1999 by Toturi's Army and Phoenix, but they
remain potent enough to win major tournaments like the recent Australian
Kotei.

This is a massive understatement. Ryan Dancey (before and after the
sale of FRPG to Wizards) repeatedly stated that mass reprints were
pretty much a non-starter for CCGs because of Chronicles, not just for
WotC, but any card company.

Quickly? There was about a year after the onslaught of Crane decks. A
lot of player can get very irate over the course of a year (I saw a lot
of them at GenCon 98).

No. All personalities are committed at once in each maneuvers segment
anyway.

Yes. Terrains remain in play until after the battle resolution

No. Rallying Cry is played after the battle (card text).

Ed Bolme has addressed this. He said something like, "I think you
underestimate our creativity." :)

Yes. Note, though, that the cards would become "Shadowlands Horde",
not "Shadowlands".

Thousands of L5R players have managed for years. ;)

This is one of the reasons I am positively juiced about Race to
Volturnum: it's going to force a lot of players to actually *think*
about deck construction, and maybe do something different than the "same
ol', same ol'." This is a chance for real innovation.
