Yes.

No. The action's on the item.

Unless a card effect says otherwise.

Koichi allows you to discard a card. He doesn't specify where.
Therefore, it can be either from Provinces or your Fate hand -- the two
places in the game that you can normally discard from.

That is not an effect. That is a requirement.

Mounts are affecting the follower. By the rules, things that normally
affect followers don't affect ancestors.

Even if that were true (which is isn't), the ancestor would not be
affecting Kamoko.

I'll take one, last shot at explaining this. Then we all agree to let
this thread die, okay?
People spit the dummy when they read the clause, "Cards that affect
Followers do not affect Ancestors." There is no definition of "effect"
and "affect" in the rules. You can't define absolutely everything in
game terms, and at some point you have to rely on folks understanding
English. Some people may want to consult dictionaries and look the words
up before proceeding.
Take a deep breath now.
Restrictions are not effects.
If you get that, you'll understand that the reason why Kamoko won't
attach ancestors is right there in the Anvil of Despair Ancestor rules.
As Jeff Alexander put in the FAQ: "A restriction against attaching
infantry is not something that alters the Ancestor. The restriction
would not be waived by the other rule on that page that makes Ancestors
immune to changes that affect only Followers."
So:
1. Kamoko will only attach Cavalry Followers (a restriction).
2. Ancestors are Followers (AoD rules).
3. Therefore, Kamoko will only attach Cavalry Ancestors.
Everyone follows *that* 3 point argument, right?
You could say that "restrictions" weren't defined in the Anvil of
Despair rules. You might say that "restrictions aren't effects" isn't in
the Anvil of Despair rules (still isn't). I'll give you that -- but that
doesn't change the logic. It was all there when Anvil of Despair came
out. It was on that basis that I posted, "Has anyone noticed that Shiryo
no Shinjo won't attach to Kamoko?" many moons ago.

I'll tell everyone in InQuest #61. Fire & Shadow will be on deck next
issue! (Unabashed plug.)
