Hey folks,
First off, I want to say how nice it is to read all of these tourney
reports. It sounds like this weekend was a good time for most of you who
attended a GotE tourney. Expect to see result from us in about 2 weeks if
all the stores get stuff back in time. We always get stragglers, but we'll
try to keep you all in the loop as to who the winning clan was. From my
quick reads of the list, it sounds like Dragon and Scorpion are both doing
well, but we'll have to wait and see.
Second, I've been getting a few emails about SoSM being sold out. I've
been talking with some people here to see what the deal is. It does appear
that we are out of SoSM stock for sale. We have a small amount of stock that
our marketing department ordered as part of a package that they plan to use
to get more SH stores (our marketing department puts in orders like
distributors do). There is also a supply of loose starters (not in displays)
that we set aside to use for demo materials at Origins and GenCon. Other
than that, it does appear to be sold out on our side. On the good side, I
was at the Alliance open house (Alliance is the Chessex and Armory
distributor), and they had about 60 to 70 displays, so that might be a good
place to get some from.
Reprinting takes for ever. It would take us about as long to reprint
SosM as it would to design a new product with a similar configuration. I'm
currently trying to find out for sure if SoSM is indeed totally out
(sometimes the numbers I get can be unreliable), if it is, I'll either put
it back to reprint or work on getting a new, similar product made.
Personally, I would preffer a new one because it would allow us to add to
the story of L5R as opposed to tell the same story over again, but there are
lots of variables here that could make just a reprint of SoSM more likely.
I know that lots of Siege decks sold to existing players who wanted the
Sneak Attacks, but even with that figured in, SoSM was a huge hit. I got
strange looks around the meeting table when I told them how many I wanted to
print because they all thought it was too many. I too thought the number was
high as well, but I figured that if there was ever a product that I DIDN'T
want to run out of, it was this one. Oh well. I guess there are worse
problems to have ;)
Lastly, we recently printed up some paper L5R play-mats. We only printed
a few thousand for the Stronghold store acquisition project and the summer
cons, but the response at the Alliance open house was good enough that we
plan to go pack on press with them. For experienced players, they are fairly
cool, but they really help teach the game. I'll let you know when you can
expect to see them (hopefully by Ambition's Debt).
Next weekend, HB pre-release. I love the Summer,

Subject: Sleeping Mountain out-of-print?
Hi,
I manage an Australian store called "Mind Games" (We are a stronghold.)
About two-three weeks ago when Sleeping Mountain was released here, I
rapidly realized I had way underordered. On the same day I contacted my main
distributor, Jedko Games, for a further nine displays. They were out of
stock, but said they would immediately order more from WOTC.
The very next day they informed me that Sleeping Mountain was out of print
and WOTC would print more if there were sufficient backorders.
I tried various other US distributors who said they also were out of stock,
and didn't know when they would be getting more.
