>Here is my simple question for a nutty SOTE deck that probably wouldn't
>work efficiently anyway. Does an out of clan Hero/Champion/Daimyo lose
>that trait when an oath of fealty goes off? For example would Ryosei exp.
>lose the champion trait if she was oathed to lion.

     From the archives:

] Clan Champion status is separate from clan affiliation. It is
] based on the original printed traits of the card and cannot be
] changed by changing alignment. You also cannot acquire a Clan
] Champion by changing alignment. Example: if a Crab Clan Champion
] swears fealty to Phoenix, her traits will change to Phoenix Clan *
] Clan Champion. She will be a Phoenix Clan Personality and a Clan
] Champion, but not a Phoenix Clan Champion. [DW, personal
] correspondence, 2/99]

No. Its effects were negated but it still resolved.

No. You're now tied for highest and the clause kicks on.

     Nope. Yoritomo's Alliance.

Ah. So that's what you were going for. No, they don't.
The whole tattoo phrase is a single trait. Or maybe Dave will
decide the opposite ruling is more fitting in light of this.
Either way, you can't make someone a Dragon or a Fox with a
tattoo.

>against the entire army) does the turtle shell "protect" only one unit or

>the entire action.

If it cancels an action, it cancels the entire thing.

If it just cancels a ranged attack (or the effects of
one), it only cancels the attack against that one unit.
Turtle's Shell falls under this category.

>also on such blanket effects, if I have a unit that may not be directly
>targeted with a range attack (sheild wall, Kaagai's Journal or built in
>trait) are they still subject to these blanket effects? Or are these blanket
>range attacks still subject to targeting each unit individually? thus
>every card save those in the protected units suffer the range attack.

Every card still targetable suffers the attack.

Death of the Ki-Rin prohibits only player B from destroying
another player's last Province. Player A is safe, player B is not.

     From the FAQ:

] Q: There are so many cards now that let someone act before the
] Defender in a battle... How do I tell which one goes first?
]
] A: For simplicity, these have all been ruled to work at the same
] speed, no matter whether they say "before the Defender's first
] action", "before any other actions", "immediately after the start of a
] battle", or whatever. The first chance to use one of these goes to the
] player whose turn it is, then it proceeds normally around the table in
] turn order.

So you play Sneak Attack, then the Defender shoots with
Purusha, then you pass, then the Defender passes, now all
Reactions are done and you, the Attacker, take the first normal
Open/Battle Action due to Sneak Attack.

>Also how does this work in regards to scout followers and their terrian
>ability?

Though it's not a Reaction, the Scout terrain effect has the
exact same timing as the Sneak Attack card itself. You, as the
active player, get the first reaction at the start of the battle,
so you could drop a terrain before Purusha shoots.

My understanding was that they were changing. I don't know
if WotC has entered into any new 11th hour negotiations.

Give that man a kumquat. That's exactly right.

>
>If a later printing of a card is jade legal, but a player doesn't have

>flavor text, is the early card still legal?

It's legal to play no matter how different it is.

All versions of all legal cards are legal in all L5R
tournament formats because all cards (and Strongholds) get played
using their Most Recently Printed wordings. You do NOT have to
buy or trade for newer versions of cards you already own to use
them in tournaments.

>Subject: shidachi ruling!
>
>ok, I have conflicting rulings on yogo shidachi, does he have to be in a
>battle to use his ability?

     Sometimes.

To be legal during battle, a Battle or Open action has to
come from, target, or affect a card in the current battle or the
battle itself. Shidachi is legal if he OR one of the units he's
targetting (or both) is in the current battle. If one of the
units is, he himself can be anywhere.

> And can he be in province c, and the a
>personality in province B is changed, with his ability?

Yes, but only during the battle at Province B or C.

     Yes.

> When you use Tetsuya can you get another Sensei(since
>Tetsuya is discarded after it is used).

No, since discarding your current Sensei is part of the
cost and you have none.
