It is very difficult to design and produce a TCG when the design team and
story guru are in one location and the art director and brand manager are in
another. While we have been able to do so, it is difficult, and the distance
means that the team as a whole is less responsive than we'd like to be.
By pulling the entire TCG team in-house, we hope to be much more integrated,
responsive, and timely, simply because the story person will be able to eat
lunch and chat with the design and art person on a daily basis.
As has been pointed out, we are not replacing Ree or Dave (both of whom and
wonderful people and whom I hope to work with on other projects), but we are
canceling AEG's design contract. If WotC owned AEG (we don't), we wouldn't
have to replace anyone. But since Ree works for AEG, she is on the other
side of the contract fence, and we have to find someone to take the job.
I hope this clears things up.
